In New York, dams are regulated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) through its Dam Safety program in the Division of Water. Learn more at their website: https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/4991.html Among the over 4,500 dams in the State's inventory are reservoir dams owned by The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) https://www1.nyc.gov/site/dep/water/reservoir-levels.page.

New York's draft guidance on hazard classification may be found here https://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/water_pdf/togs315.pdf
